How We First Met

It was a cooler-than-usual early June. The honeysuckle was in full swing and I was absolutely head over heels for its permeating sweetness lilting on every breeze. You had just started your NASA summer internship the day before, and I was a veteran, having been there two weeks already. We were lucky enough to both get on Doc Belver’s fuel containment experimental design team. First judging by his slight stature and typically unassuming comportment, I can’t believe what a prankster he turned out to be! Ahh, if only life could always be early days in a space exploration career…

(This is a “fake answers only” response to how I met Kathryn P. Smith)

Let’s Go for a Walk

When I walk beside you,
I’m walking on air.
And my whole world is right,
I don’t have a care.

We can talk and laugh,
Or just walk on.
As long as we know the other is there
All our troubles are gone.

Birds singing and sun shining bright,
Or a cool rain in the middle of the night.
Walking with you just might
Be the thing I love most of all.

Doesn’t matter where,
Doesn’t matter when,
I’ll walk beside you every day of my life;
Again and again and again.

You tell me secrets,
And I tell you mine.
Having someone with mutual trust
Is worth all the gold in the world.

You shine, you sparkle, and glow.
I love you more than the rain
Loves a rainbow.

Grab your shoes
And throw them on.
Let’s go for a walk,
And sing each other songs.

Reaper Ain’t No Friend of Mine

I can’t blame him
Just doing his job
He gets no thanks
And on he plods

He never needs to run
And he’ll always catch up
Nowhere to hide
A dozen more souls in his old patched cup.

Chorus
I wish it weren’t so
That we’ve all got a time.
On he comes and he never comes slow
Reaper ain’t no friend of mine.

It’s not his fault
And I don’t wish him ill
He walks right behind you
On the other side of the hill

He’s got a job,
And I reckon it’s just.
He might not like it,
But he knows that he must.

Chorus
I wish it weren’t so
That we’ve all got a time.
On he comes and he never comes slow
Reaper ain’t no friend of mine.

Chorus 2
Won’t be long till I’ll have to go.
I’m not standing in line,
But my turn comes I know.
Reaper ain’t no friend of mine.
